Many  times, I come across people who don’t want to continue with their hard earned job merely because they started feeling  as if, this is not the place they imagined to be  in their career, may be the place has become a misfit for them.

When I tried to dig more to find out reasons for such a shift in thoughts, all I  could gather is it’s not about the organization or the portfolio rather  it’s shockingly about the field. The field, this candidate is already in, after years of education including specialization in domain and selecting the organization of his choice; this field is not in-sync with his own expectations. And thus, I see some promising candidates leaving their jobs in despair.

Now I am eager to know when is the right time to realize for an individual to which field he should opt; certainly it shouldn’t be after 18 years of studies plus few years in an alien land.

18-20 years of journey to realize this is not the right path, is too costly both in terms of time and money.

So, who’s at fault for this mess? surely individuals can’t escape but I think parents/guides should also try to  bring clarity to  individuals and should not be too ambitious with their version about the field which is far away from reality. To be a doctor or an engineer is not just a five- or four-year degree course only it is followed by lot of hardships and that is going to continue for lifetime till you retire. It’s important to know not only about course or stream to become a doctor / engineer but detail about the profession, their lifestyle, places, diversity and hardship they face. Now if it still excites you, maybe you are on the right track ; If not , you have the option not to enter a vicious circle.

Now let the individual choose his life, diversity & hardships and then decide the profession you wish to be in. Let’s not subscribe to some meaningless  profession and mess up everything in life.

Trust me it will bring more peace to the world, less resignations, less frustration, more love for the job as one will rate the movie after watching it not on the basis of a trailer!
