While pursuing engineering I bet no one would have imagined a life in the midst of Dust , Scorching Sun , Full of Sweat and Physical trauma in the field. This is how Life turns out to be , Wait … Let me clarify i have no intention whatsoever to frighten a budding engineer ; But whats wrong in telling people where they are going to land after years of studies, i m not saying it’s a wrong place to be however young engineers should come to this field only if they accept to be a part of it after knowing it properly. Otherwise, It would be a challenging journey with no love for the work you will be taking up in future then ” Resignation ” after spending 01… 02 …. 03…. n months or years ; what’s the point of wasting these valuable years if you understand while pursuing engineering itself that you doesn’t belong to this world. ” Nobody told me but it is also true i have no regrets to be a part of this world ” perhaps this is the best what describes my potential. It’s challenging like i said before but it will also gives me peaceful sleeps at night. Complaints from a Construction Engineer : 1. Salary Scale :- I have seen many start comparing Software sector salary scale in the initial years with Construction sector , these are two different worlds and comparisons will only add disappointments and frustration for no reasons. Your value in the construction sector grows exponential with experience and i doubt if same is valid for software sector except for the Initial days/years. So gain the experience and gain value to your accounts.2. Limited Switching Options : Well they also feel , there are limited switching options which means construction market is very restricted based on your core expertise like Electrical / Civil / Mechanical ; Only few big MNCs & PSUs are there ; I would say partly correct Construction world is restricted to an extent but if you find options to switch very limited then may be you are already with a right combination. 3. No Social Life : Here i have to agree unfortunately , Yes it’s not an exaggeration as most of the big construction sites are mostly in the outskirt areas / towns / cities / states. So less scope to socialize in no mans land. It also happens many times you can’t keep your families at site locations considering unavailability of basic amenities and security reasons but where is life simple.. see our soldiers , they can’t leave borders for years and stay without their family in worst of conditions without electricity , telecom networks , water etc. There is a great saying ” Grass on the other side always looks Greener ” may be that’s what happen with people who takes decision without of much of understanding.
So, life is not easy anywhere on this planet but how an individual turns things as per his potential creates the difference among the rest. So my budding engineer’s it’s a challenging life but surely not a monotonous one , it will be exciting everyday. So go through above , if you are ready then only join construction world else the world doesn’t respect Quitters. Think twice before you make any decision for your career.
